What If It's True?
By Rick Rusaw
Famous CNN journalist Larry King was being interviewed on his own show in
honor of his 25th anniversary by fellow journalist Bryant Gumbel. Gumbel asked King a very interesting question. “If you could ask God anything, what would you ask him?” said Gumble. King answered, “I would ask him, ‘Did you really have a son? Because if you did, it would change everything.’”
While I was raised in a moral home, faith in Christ wasn’t any part of our family’s experience. I didn’t grow up as a Christian. Like many, there was a time when I had to sort out what I believed and why. All of Christianity centers on this one man, Jesus. Who is he really? Is he God’s Son? Is he the Messiah? Is he simply a good teacher? Is he a madman, showman, or nutcase? Like you, I had to find the answers to that myself.
If the claims Christ made for himself are true, what will you do with Jesus? If Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah, and all of humanity’s Savior, then the implications to my life and your life are astounding. If it is true, then there are questions we all need to be asking: What does it mean to me? If there is a Savior, what do I need saving from? What kind of response do I make to a Messiah?
Have you ever really checked out the claims of Christianity? If you haven’t, what keeps you from investigating? Maybe you have checked out the claims but are still not sure why you believe what you believe. This Christmas, rather than yawn our way through another round of celebrating a baby in a manger, why not investigate the claims of Christ? If God did have a son, it would make all the difference. What if it’s true?
“Did you really have a son? Because if you did, it would change everything.”
